At the VFL Wolfsburg, a lot of things reminds us of the catastrophe season in the previous year, even if this sounds hard. One shows offensive harmless, even expensive signings such as Divock Origi can not change (so far). Bitter: Mario Gomez is the most dangerous player in the entire squad, a fate that is shared with his opponent Bremen. The fact is that the VFL at home is still without season, instead, in the first home game, the worst performance of all matchdays (0: 3 against Dortmund), against Hannover, it was a (flattering) 1: 1 draw. In our opinion, the performance curve is clearly pointing downwards. After the Dortmund debacle one could rehabilitate oneself, showed against Eintracht Frankfurt above all combative a very good achievement, even if the playful Glanzlichter were missing. But there was little to see on the weekend against Stuttgart. The two-team quartet, for example, spoke clearly for the opponent from Swabia, with 61:39 per cent, and they were not able to achieve the equalizer in the final stages. In the semi-final one, the Joncker-Elf was particularly susceptible to the right-wing defensive side, a fact that only changed with the take-over of Augsburg’s newcomer Paul Verhaegh, who will probably make his debut on Tuesday in the Wolfsburger Startelf. The fact is that the Lower Saxony in home games have defensive problems. Four out of five contenders have been conceded in their own stadium, and it is questionable how keeper Koen Casteels has copied his foul to Christian Gentner, which was not just medial, but ended for his opponent on the operating table. Even when they took over the optical command over the game in half, the VFL was simply too harmless. One is currently too much dependent on the daily form of individual players, in general the Wolfsburgers do not look like a sworn troop. A fact that we consider to be the biggest advantage for guests from Bremen. Wolfsburg have a very strong Passport (84% Passquote in Stuttgart), however, they usually do not achieve a space gain. The few situations in which one became dangerous on Saturday resulted accordingly little surprising from standard situations. The last three duels against Werder have all been lost with a goal difference, the last one before their own audience with 1: 2.
Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen and the first round – for years no love affair in the German Bundesliga. For Alexander Nouri, the results of the season start should be tight. It should be mentioned again, however, that the North Germans had so far not too easy opponents before their breasts had, if they are for Bremen at all. With Hoffenheim (0: 1), Bayern (0: 2), Hertha BSC (1: 1) and Schalke (1: 2), three Europacup starters and a team under the new coach are on the upswing. Nevertheless, it was just the defeat in their own stadium against the “squires”, which could represent a kind “neck gap” for Bremen. Why? Because in this game and after the (deserved) 1: 1 against the Hertha probably a further increase – even with regard to the result. But it came differently. However, it must be said that Bremen had little to blame, especially at the beginning. In the first few minutes, a courageous performance was delivered, with full resistance to it, leading to aggressive battles and acting very bravely in the game with high pressing. The will to force the enemy to his knees was recognizable every second. Bitter: Just under 20 minutes, striker star Max Kruse was injured, a key bite broke and will be canceled for an extended period of time. He is thus more or less the Bremen counterpart to Mario Gomez. Though playfully, it was a standard that brought the Manns from the Weser into the lead. Sané used a rebound to the early 1-0. Bremen – a fact in which it is possible to work – could only keep this lead too short. Curiously, it was once again a corner and, in addition, an own goal, which brought Schalke into the game. Veljkovic lobs the ball high into the air. Bitter: This was the first “shot” of the opponent from Gelsenkirchen. As a result, Bremen continued to play at high speed in the game, but lacked the necessary determination and precision.
