Sabah Baku vs Celje Prediction & Tips
Sabah is a very young club, founded only in 2017. Not surprisingly, in its short history, Sabah is only playing in a European competition for the third time. Previously they participated in the Conference League, where they did not make it past the third round.
In the Azerbaijan championship, where Qarabag is the dominant force, Sabah finished only fifth last season. However, the team achieved the unexpected feat of winning the Azerbaijan Cup, beating Qarabag 3-2 in the final. This success allowed Sabah to qualify for the Europa League. They will face the new season under new head coach Valdas Dambrauskas.
Last season was rather contradictory for Celje. The yellow and blues only finished fourth in the Slovenian league, despite having been champions in the 2023/24 campaign. However, Celje managed in absolutely sensational fashion to reach the quarter-finals of the Conference League, where they were eliminated by Fiorentina, and they also won the Slovenian Cup.
Crucially for Celje, they managed to retain their head coach Albert Riera this summer, to whom they owe all their recent successes. However, the Slovenian side will be without top scorer Armandas Kučys, who suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee, for the clash with Sabah.
