Paraguay vs Peru Prediction & Tips
South American qualifications for the World Cup kick off with the 36th meeting between Paraguay (# 40 in the FIFA Ranking) and Peru (# 22) – the record of clashes with each other so far slightly favors Paraguay (G13 , E10, P12). The matches in which Paraguay participates are usually hotly contested, as eight of their last nine matches have produced less than 2.5 goals in total (G2, E4, P3 – 90 minutes).
Paraguay obtained less than half (11) of its 24 points won in the last edition of the Qualifiers at home (G3, E2, P4) and, in fact, the local team has an inconsistent record against CONMEBOL rivals classified at ten Peru places during the last decade (G4, E1, P4), while four red cards were shown in those nine games.
Peru appears in this match having scored in only two of their last five matches (W1, E1, P3). However, four of those games were against higher ranking countries. Peru is undefeated in 18 of 21 matches against any country within ten places of Paraguay since 2010 (G15, E3, P3), with their away record in such matches being G4, E2, P2.
In addition to the previously mentioned streak, two-thirds of the games played against opponents of similar classification produced less than 2.5 goals in total, while in the same number of games only one or no teams scored. Despite the above, eight of the 15 victories came with a margin of two or more goals.
Players to watch: Asuncion-born Adam Bareiro has scored three goals in his last three league games for Alanyaspor. Each of the two victories produced in that same period saw his team keep the goal unbeaten.
With one goal and one assist, Christian Cueva participated with two goals in the second half in Peru’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay on their last visit to this venue for the Qualifiers.
Highlight: Peru’s technical director Ricardo Gareca has a perfect career record against Paraguay (G5, E / P0). He did not concede goals in four of those games and, in addition, two of those wins were against the current Paraguayan strategist.
