Nantes did not have the most brilliant season, but they managed to achieve their main objective: to stay in Ligue 1. The team survived thanks to a solid final stretch of the championship: in the last five matchdays, the ‘canaries’ suffered only one defeat, drew three times and on the decisive matchday beat Montpellier, dispelling any relegation doubts.
The impressive form continued at the Club World Cup, where PSG immediately confirmed their status as favourites: in the opening match they crushed Atlético Madrid 4-0. Then came an unexpected defeat to Botafogo, but after that the team overcame Seattle Sounders, Inter Miami, Bayern and Real Madrid with authority, keeping a clean sheet in all those victories. In the final, however, they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Chelsea to lose the trophy.
