Levante made a mark in the Europa League in 2012/2013, when, as debutants, they reached the last 16, losing in extra time. But not only have they failed to repeat that feat, they have also failed to finish higher than tenth in LaLiga since then, and have been relegated to the second tier on two occasions. In the 2016/2017 season they achieved immediate promotion, even as champions, but two years ago they failed to progress beyond the qualifying round, and last spring they settled for eighth place.
Albacete made their debut in Primera in 1991, but were relegated for a second time in 2005, and have not returned to the top flight since. In almost two decades, the club has not progressed beyond the second division, and has even been relegated to the third division three times, where it will play in the 2021/2022 campaign. After promotion, the team went straight into the playoffs from sixth place, although they were unsuccessful, and finished a modest thirteenth the following season.
