Hungary – Latvia PREDICTION & TIPS

Hungary

The expectation in Hungary was probably a little too high after the great European championship in the previous year. For now, the Magyars can not meet these expectations in any way. Hungary are now in the table of qualifying group B meanwhile again on table place three, however, the train to Russia probably already left. The gap to the top runners from Switzerland and second placed Portugal is already eleven and eight points respectively. With four remaining games this means that you are condemned to victory against Latvia. The big problem in Hungary is the offensive, especially if you are to make the comparison with the two best teams in the group. So you have only a little more than a third of those hits that Portugal was allowed to cheer. This would be half as bad if the Hungarian defensive were about as good as in France, but also no trace of it. In addition, some embarrassing results against crass outsiders, so the scoreless draws away against the Faroe Islands. But whoever thought it could not get any worse could be very much wrong. Because on the previous day one had to be – one of the biggest sensations in the previous qualification – even Andorra with 0-1 defeated. Even Thursday’s opponent Latvia had scored a 1-0 victory against the football dwarf, though not without difficulty. Positively right there already the home advantage. The last home game of the qualification was lost against Switzerland only very unhappily and at the last minute with 2: 3, Hungary was the better team over long distances. Even the by far highest victory in the course of this qualification succeeded at home in the 4-0 success against Andorra. In addition, Latvia can have a good memory, the first leg in Riga won the Storck’s 2-0 win. However, the German coach probably missed adding new players after the successful EM, but they wanted to create a sensation again with the heroes of France. How bitterly needed creativity in the game would be, the fact that in Andorra despite nearly 70 per cent ball possession was not a success, seven top opportunities remained unused. Bitter: With Lazlo Kleinheisler, a player is injured, who could be trusted to provide more dynamism in the game. Hungary is therefore again very easy to get on the offensive, but you almost always rely on the qualities of veteran Balasz Dzsudzsák and Adam Szalai. The Hoffenheim legionary has also scored no less than half of all Hungarian goals in Group B, so it should also be a victorious factor on Thursday.

Latvia

For Latvia, the fight for a place at the World Cup is nothing more, too big is the gap to the necessary ranks. And yet, the Baltic will be motivated to go into this Thursday’s game. Why? On the one hand, it has been seen that Hungary is absolutely vulnerable. On the other hand, the Latvians definitely want to be away from the end of the group stage. The change of coach to Aleksandrs Starkovs has not yet paid off, instead there were two defeats in the two games of his short term. Together with the Faroe Islands and Andorra, Latvia also represents the weakest defense of the whole group. So far, only Andorra has been weaker than the team from the Baltics. Nevertheless, the attack game is to be seen as the great weakness. In three of the last four matches and friendships, they were without a goal, lost 3-0 against Portugal, 0-2 against Switzerland, 0-5 against Georgia, and 1: 2 against Estonia in the Baltics duel. One reason for this could be that Coach Starkovs does not yet know which game system is best for his team. In the two games of his term, he teamed the team in two different formations, showing a return to a more defensive game system (4-4-1-1 and 5-4-1) than under his predecessor, which in turn a 4-2-3-1. It is also clear that, in many positions, Latvia simply lacks the necessary game material to be able to win against stronger teams or to get at least one point at a time. Against Switzerland, only 32 per cent of the ball possession was found, acting too hectic in the construction of the play area. There is a lacking hand in the midfield, not to mention a goalkeeper, although he would have been struggling with one shot in just 90 minutes.
