Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Prediction & Tips
Last weekend’s defeat to Sunderland marked Crystal Palace’s seventh consecutive game without a win in the Premier League (two draws, five defeats), a negative streak currently surpassed only by Burnley (13) before this matchday. The team has also failed to win in its last ten matches in all competitions (three draws, ten defeats). In addition, the Eagles have suffered another setback with the sale of their captain Marc Guéhi, which has caused unrest for outgoing manager Oliver Glasner, who has also seen Jean-Philippe Mateta seek a move away this week. While a replacement for the Austrian is being sought, Glasner is focused on ending a seven-game winless streak at home (four draws, three defeats). However, with only West Ham having picked up fewer points than Palace in London derbies in the top flight since the start of the 2022-2023 season, this does not seem like the best scenario to turn things around.
Only Arsenal have picked up more points than Chelsea’s 73 in London derbies in the Premier League during that period, a figure Rosenior will be hoping to add to against wounded opposition. Following an unconvincing 1-0 win over Paphos in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Rosenior has won three of his first four games in charge of the Blues and could become the first English manager to win his first two Premier League games in charge of a club since Steven Gerrard in 2021. However, it is not a certainty, as before this matchday only the bottom two teams, Burnley and Wolves, have picked up fewer points than Chelsea’s three in their last five away games (3 draws, 2 defeats).
