Castellón in the last century occasionally managed to get promoted to LaLiga, although they ultimately failed to make a significant mark there. However, since 1991 they have not reached the top flight again, and since 2010 they have only played one season in Segunda, spending more time in the fourth division. Only last spring did they manage promotion from the third division, winning their group.
Sporting de Gijón, until recently, was practically a ‘lift’ between divisions. It didn’t stay in Primera for long, although it did manage to go up from time to time. The last time was between 2015 and 2017, when they managed to string together a couple of seasons at the top level. After that, they tried to come back through the playoffs twice: right after relegation and last summer, but both times without success.
