Benfica – CSKA Moscow PREDICTION & TIPS

Benfica Lisbon

Benfica Lisbon has, of course, been one of the sound names in European football for decades. However, it has not been enough for a very long time in the form of an international title. Accordingly, it would be a good start to the CL season 20117/2018. And the chances are not bad if you take a look into the past. If one is looking to the younger history, it can be said of a very successful season start in the Portuguese league. Benfica is still undefeated after five games in the NOS league. If it were not for the Sporting and Porto teams, it would probably be entirely on cloud seven. So far, there have been four wins and a draw in five games. Strikingly, the capital cities have barely lost their defensive strength from the pre-season. With two contenders from five games, they are one of the top teams in Portugal. However, the shape curve finally showed a little down. Why? Benfica was able to win the dress-up for the CL opening, but this was only very close to the 2-1 defeat of the late Portimonense. Prior to that, they had to settle for a 1: 1 draw against Rio Ave and the table lead was loose. Last weekend, they beat the 14th out of Portimonense, with the result of a one-goal red card for the opponents and a penalty kick. However, there are other factors that are worth mentioning. Despite narrow results Benfica was the clear-playing team, lacking only a few goals. 65 per cent of the ball possession was recorded in the 90 minutes, Rui Vitoria’s team lost 13 shots in the direction of the opponent’s goal, six of which were recorded by the statistics as major chances. It is thus clear that there was still no lack of the necessary chances in any game. On the international top level, however, one should act more efficiently, especially against CSKA, which will probably be on Tuesday with a defensive basic orientation. Hope is the right side of Benfica, who has been doing a tremendous job since the start of the season and was also the winning factor at the weekend. Also positive: With 10 goals from three home games, you are the number one in the world, and Benfica is generally considered to be very strong. This also shows a look at 2016/2017. Not only did they lose a single of 17 league home games, but they also won 14 in the group stage of the Champions League, and they had to bow to the SSC Naples. However, the start ended with a 1: 1 home game against Besiktas, a result with which one would probably not be completely satisfied with Benfica.

CSKA Moscow

At CSKA Moscow, the start to the championship has not been as good as the opponents from Portugal. Why? After nine game days in the premier league, the favorites title for the championship is only fifth. And this could be a significant factor for Tuesday, a surprising homecoming. All of the three defeats were settled at home, but they are still unbeaten. In the defensive, on the other hand, CSKA seems to be much more stable in the foreign country, less than a third of the nine conceded contenders fell in away games. Systematically, we expect no surprises from the Russians. As a rule, coach Viktor Goncharenko puts on an offensive 3-5-2 system, which is mainly for stability in the midfield and is supposed to produce an overweight. This could turn out to be a good match against a strong team like Benfica Lisbon. The qualification for the royal class was demonstrated by the fact that you can be absolutely at an international level abroad. Because the Russian top club presented itself in absolute dream form, won all games in the rounds three and four, and remained completely without a matchmaker. The two away games against AEK Athens and the Young Boys from Berne were won 2-0 and 1-0. However, it has to be emphasized that CSKA in its own stadium plays on artificial grasses, so that the natural green in Lisbon might be worthwhile. The same was already observed in Berne. Taking this away as a benchmark for Tuesday, we see little hope of a point gain. For the Swiss were the much better team, dominated mainly in run two. It was only thanks to the lack of chances as well as to an outstanding Igor Akinfeev, that one went in the end as the winner of the place. Hope, however, is the last direct duel in an international knockout phase.
