This Saturday’s Catalan derby between Barcelona and Girona looks set to be a very uneven contest. In other words, the reigning champions and current second-placed team will face a side that ended last season in freefall, narrowly avoiding relegation and currently occupying a relegation spot.
Despite being clear favourites, Barça are weighed down by several problems. On the one hand, they went into the international break after suffering their first defeat of the season at the Sánchez Pizjuán, which came in the form of a heavy 4-1 defeat.
On the other hand, international fixtures have once again been a headache for Flick’s side, who have now lost Lewandowski to injury while on international duty with Poland. Despite this, Barça are the clear favourites against a Girona side who recorded their first win of the season last weekend against Valencia (2-1) and are now unbeaten in three games, having drawn their two matches prior to that victory.
