Tottenham vs Atl. Madrid Prediction & Tips
Tottenham is struggling not only with its recent poor form but also with history, given that in only four of the first 51 instances has a team managed to overturn a Champions League knockout tie after losing the first leg by a margin of at least three goals. Current manager Igor Tudor expressed hope that Sunday’s 1-1 draw in the Premier League at Anfield could be a turning point to end a run of eight games without a win across all competitions (2 draws, 6 losses) and, perhaps, even save his job. Their performances in the UCL group stage at home, where they won all four matches without conceding a goal, should offer them at least some hope, however slim, for a spectacular comeback.
Atlético Madrid is rapidly heading toward another qualification for next season’s UCL group stage, thanks to their position in La Liga, after racking up four consecutive league wins, plus a decisive 5-2 victory in the first leg. The five goals scored in that match set a new club record for the most goals (29) in a single UCL campaign, and even though clean sheets have been rare this season, their offensive firepower seems to have already secured them a run longer than last year’s elimination in the round of 16. However, the chances of advancing in style with an away win are not very high, as Atlético has just one win in their last six UCL away matches (2 draws, 3 losses).
