Chelsea vs Arsenal Prediction & Tips
Due to their high standards, Chelsea and Arsenal have not won domestic titles for years, so this Carabao Cup semifinal is hugely important for both London teams.
Chelsea’s new coach, Liam Rosenior, makes his debut on the Stamford Bridge bench after starting his tenure with a resounding 5-1 victory over Charlton in the FA Cup. The quickest way for him to win over the fans is to lift a trophy, as the Blues have not celebrated a domestic title since the 2017-2018 season. Their last success in this competition was in 2014-2015, and since then they have won three of their four semi-finals, although their only defeat was against Arsenal. The club will be looking to take a positive result to the Emirates for the second leg, but having won only one of their last four home games (two draws, one defeat), they may need the famous ‘new manager effect’ to make the leap.
It has been almost six years since Arsenal lifted their only trophy under Mikel Arteta, but a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions (8 wins, 1 draw) allows them to compete on four fronts. The Premier League leaders comfortably beat Portsmouth on Sunday in the FA Cup, securing their fourth consecutive away win, a run in which they have scored 11 goals in total. The Gunners know that this does not guarantee success here, as they have fallen at this stage in two of the last four editions, adding to a poor record in the League Cup, where they have only lifted the trophy twice, most recently in 1993.
