RB Leipzig vs Freiburg Prediction & Tips
RB Leipzig, third in the Bundesliga before matchday 17, will look to take advantage of the weekend break following the postponement of their match at St. Pauli when they host a Freiburg side that is clearly improving.
RB Leipzig’s match on Saturday was suspended due to winter conditions, so when they take to the field on Wednesday, it will have been 25 days since their last official match (a 1-3 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen). The Red Bulls have won six of their seven home league games this season, although the most recent was precisely that defeat to Leverkusen. They will be hoping that the lack of action does not take its toll and that they can avoid back-to-back Bundesliga defeats at the Red Bull Arena for the first time since January 2024. Only Bayern Munich have scored more goals at home in Germany’s top flight this season (39) than Leipzig’s 19 before this matchday, so they will be confident of getting back on track with a good performance.
Freiburg’s 2-1 comeback win over Hamburg on Saturday saw them climb to eighth place ahead of this round of games, six points behind RB Leipzig. What’s more, that result means they have now picked up more points (11) after falling behind than any other Bundesliga team this season before this matchday. Julian Schuster’s side now have the chance to string together three consecutive wins in the top flight for the first time since April last season. The Brazilians from Brisgovia will need to improve defensively to achieve this, as only Hamburg and Eintracht Frankfurt have conceded more goals away from home (17) in the 2025/26 Bundesliga ahead of this matchday.
