The start of the Premier League season has been disastrous for Wolverhampton. The Wolves lost their first five league games, before securing two consecutive draws against Tottenham and Brighton on matchdays six and seven. However, they suffered another setback in their last outing, losing 0–2 to Sunderland. After eight games, Wolverhampton have only two points and are bottom of the table, five points adrift of safety. Despite this disastrous start, their chances of survival remain intact.
Burnley, for their part, are also struggling to find consistency—which can be explained by their recent promotion to the Premier League. Although the situation is hardly any brighter, the Clarets have still managed to pick up a few more points than Wolverhampton. Burnley drew 1–1 with Nottingham Forest and beat Leeds and Sunderland by the same score of 2–0. As a result, the Clarets have seven points and currently sit in 17th place in the table.
