It is expected to be an emotional occasion for Everton as they prepare to play their 2,791st and final top-flight game at Goodison Park. They will be hoping to close their season by adding to their impressive total of 1,538 official victories, and will arrive with plenty of confidence after beating a team fighting for a place in European competitions like Fulham last week at Craven Cottage (3-1), returning to winning ways after three games without a win (E1, P2).
They probably couldn’t have picked a better match to finish with, facing an already relegated Southampton side. But the South Coast side have become something of a ghost of late for Everton, with the ‘Toffees’ already losing twice to them this season (League Cup on penalties, Premier League 1-0). Not the best form considering the Merseyside club have not won in their last seven official home games (E5, P2).
