Fenerbahce – Ludogorets (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Fenerbahce vs Ludogorets Prediction & Tips

It was more of the same for Fenerbahçe last weekend when they extended their 100% winning record to 17 official matches in the 2023/24 season, including a club record nine consecutive domestic league victories. Attention must now quickly return to the issue of this UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) group, where the home side could take another big step towards the knockout stage with a third straight win.
This is the Yellow Canaries’ first clash against Bulgarian opposition since knocking Botev Plovdiv out of the old UEFA Cup 5-3 on aggregate in the 1992/93 season, and a great record of nine goals scored in consecutive home games with no reply from opponents suggests this should be another formality for the home side. In fact, Fenerbahce have scored three or five goals in each of their four European home games this season, although only in one did they not concede goals from the opposition, meaning they have not found perfection.
Things have not gone so well for Bulgarian champions Ludogorets, who suffered the heaviest defeat in UECL history on the previous matchday when they were humiliated 7-1 by Nordsjælland. They responded very well to that drubbing with a pair of clean sheets in domestic league action, which keeps them among the upper echelons of Bulgaria’s Parva League.
Ludogorets’ damaging defeat in Denmark the previous matchday was an anomaly only in terms of the scoreline, as their performance at European level in their last 12 away games has been anything but inspiring (G1, E2, P9). In each of the nine defeats during that streak they allowed at least two goals, although they did at least manage to score 11 times during that monotonous sequence.
Players to watch: Edin Džeko continued where he left off after the international break, scoring for the third consecutive appearance in what is now his best run since arriving at Fenerbahçe. Equally on fire for Ludogorets is Jakub Piotrowski, who has contributed seven goals in his last eight official appearances (four goals, three assists). That includes a phenomenal Flashscore rating of 9.6 in his first UECL group stage match.
Fast Fact: Fenerbahçe has led at both halftime and at the end of the second half in all but one of its last seven matches.
