Metz vs Montpellier Prediction & Tips
Having given the rest of Ligue 1 an advantage by avoiding defeat in just four of the first 11 matches (W1, E3, P7), Metz finally shows that they won’t give up easily – or so it seems. They managed to beat powerful Nice 1-0 on the final matchday, which means that now Frédéric Antonetti and his men are on an unbeaten streak of four matches in the first division (W1, E3).
Stade Saint-Symphorien fans will play their usual role, although “Les Grenats” have won two-thirds (eight) of their total points on the road. The presence of Montpellier will add more drama to the game, as Metz have not been able to beat them at home since January 2017, with the local team of the occasion being unable to win a clash between them since then (E3, P3).
Traveling after registering two consecutive defeats in which they have not scored a goal, Montpellier seeks inspiration, since they have not registered three consecutive games without scoring in the top flight since May 2017. For many of the favorites to play in European competitions next year, Montpellier know they cannot give up any more ground.
As a visitor, “La Paillade” has suffered to maintain the performance that led him to lose only one match of the last 13 that he played away from home last season (G7, E5), and has only achieved one win in seven away games from their stadium this season (E2, P4). However, coach Olivier Dall’Oglio is a headache for the locals, as he has claimed victory in four of his last five visits to Metz as a coach.
Players to watch: Metz striker Nicolas de Préville has scored four of his last five domestic goals before half-time, while Florent Mollet has opened the scoring in five of his last seven games for Montpellier.
Highlight: Metz are the only team in Ligue 1 that have yet to score after the 75th minute this season.
