Mallorca vs Getafe Prediction & Tips
It’s been a steady, if unspectacular return to La Liga (LL) for Mallorca, but Monday night’s defeat against Rayo Vallecano did extend their winless LL run to six games (D4, L2), ahead of the visit of relegation-threatened Getafe in what has the feel of a ‘must win’ for the hosts.
Things haven’t quite been as bad as it may seem for Mallorca, although spurning leads has been a major issue. In fact, no team in LL has dropped more points from winning positions than their 11 – whilst in three of the five games in which they have done so (D4, L1), the decisive goal has come beyond the 85th minute. Concentration is something that coach Luis García Plaza will need to work on, especially as only two teams in LL have conceded more stoppage time goals than Mallorca (three).
While Getafe may hold a better record when taking the lead than Mallorca, that is where the bragging rights end for Quique Sánchez Flores’ side, who currently reside in LL’s bottom three. However, things are certainly looking brighter for Getafe with two wins in their last three LL outings, although both came on home soil and they remain winless away from home (D2, L5).
A league low of two away goals is undoubtedly behind this and Getafe’s blunt nature doesn’t stop there. Their shot conversion rate of 4.5% has them ranked rock-bottom in LL, although they did find the net with four of their eight shots on target in their last LL outing against Cádiz – the first time Getafe had scored four goals in a league game since December 2019.
Players to watch: Mallorca’s Daniel Rodríguez has four LL goal involvements to his name this season (G2, A2) – all of which have come in home games. Whilst Enes Ünal has four goals in as many LL games for Getafe and has scored against Mallorca in his two prior personal meetings.
