Lille – Nantes (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Lille vs Nantes Prediction & Tips

Lille won a vital UEFA Champions League fixture against Salzburg in midweek, but they remain in dire need of a domestic boost. ‘Le LOSC’ are in 12th spot, and just four points above the relegation playoff berth going into this gameweek, while their total of 17 points after 14 matchdays represents the worst start for a reigning Ligue 1 champion since Montpellier in 2012/13.
The hosts seem able, at least, to rely on home form to reduce their current six-point gap on the European places. As well as being unbeaten in their previous five top-flight home games (W3, D2), Lille have also won each of the last six competitive home H2Hs, which could provide them with a psychological advantage.
Eight-time Ligue 1 champions Nantes, who had to survive the relegation playoffs in 2020/21, seem to have learned from their mistakes. A return of just three losses across the last nine Ligue 1 rounds (W4, D2) has taken them one place above their hosts, and only once across their previous 15 Ligue 1 campaigns have they scored more goals at this stage (19).
The visitors’ biggest concern lies on the road though, as they’ve claimed just one win away from home after seven attempts so far (D2, L4). That stands in sharp contrast to last season, when Nantes finished the campaign with three consecutive wins on their Ligue 1 travels, scoring a staggering ten goals across those fixtures.
Players to watch: Lille’s Jonathan David dominates the Ligue 1 top scorer standings with ten goals to date, 70% of which have come before half-time. Meanwhile, the in-form Randal Kolo Muani has been involved in three of Nantes’ last four league goals (G2, A1).
Hot stat: Lille manager Jocelyn Gourvennec is unbeaten in six Ligue 1 managerial H2Hs vs Nantes coach Antoine Kombouaré (W5, D1).
