B. Monchengladbach vs Darmstadt Prediction & Tips

After the midweek postponement of their DFB-Pokal quarter-final in Saarbrücken, Borussia Mönchengladbach will be hoping to end their three-game winless streak in the Bundesliga (E1, P2). Their last two clashes were against the top two, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, so one can give the Foals the benefit of the doubt as they prepare for a much easier assignment on paper.
Bottom-placed Darmstadt are the visitors to Borussia-Park this weekend, and with Gladbach having lost just one of their last nine official home games (G6, E2), there should be a degree of confidence that they can break their current winless run. Despite those good results, Gladbach have failed to win four of their five league games against opponents who started the day below them at any venue this season (G1, E2, P2), and conceded at least two goals in four of those matches, as they have done in their last two home appearances against this opponent (G1, E1).

That goal-scoring ability has eluded Darmstadt of late, as a run of three clean sheets in their last four Bundesliga games (E1) has left them seven points off fifteenth place and thus relegation before the weekend, and having failed to finish victorious in any of their last 13 league games (E4, P9), they are finding it increasingly difficult to stay in the top flight.
Fans of the visitors may have bad memories of the previous meeting between them in the league, in which Darmstadt incredibly held a 3-0 lead before drawing 3-3, although that brought coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s solid career record against Gladbach to just one loss in four games (G1, E2, L1). Another strong start may be needed if the Lillies are to secure their second win playing away from home in this league campaign, as they are one of only two Bundesliga sides not to have recorded a clean sheet on opposition soil.
Players to watch: Gladbach’s Jordan Siebatcheu started that thrilling comeback in Darmstadt with the first of four goals he has scored to open his side’s scoring this season. He is likely to be stopped by defender Matej Maglica, who has been cautioned in two of his last four games and scored before being sent off at home to Gladbach last September.
Key stat: Both teams have scored in 16 of the 20 matches.
