Wolves – Brentford (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Wolves vs Brentford Prediction & Tips

Wolves emphatically bounced back from their first loss in 2024 to Manchester United by defeating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge last time out. That was the seventh game in the last nine in which Gary O’Neil’s men scored two or more goals (G6, E2, P1), helping the team begin to build a reputation as one of the division’s most exciting sides. They will also go into this matchday just four points off the top seven and with legitimate hopes of returning to European competitions in 2024-25 for the first time in four years.
Another win here against visitors Brentford would strengthen those ambitions, and with victories in four of the last five home meetings (P1), Wolves should head into this clash with confidence. The most recent came last month in the FA Cup (3-2), which continued a trend to be reckoned with of O’Neil’s men scoring at least one goal after 60 minutes in four consecutive home games.
Brentford will no doubt have to be on their guard after conceding two goals after the break in last Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. As a result, the ‘Bees were left looking over their shoulder in the face of a shrinking three-point gap to the relegation zone, and now go into this weekend’s action with an unwanted record of having lost more Premier League games than any other team in the last 11 rounds (G2, P9).

This highlights the downward trajectory Thomas Frank’s side currently find themselves on, with their inability to see success in games being one of their biggest problems. They have managed to open the scoring in 14 of their Premier League games so far (only two teams had done so more), but have notably lost more games (six) than they won (five) in doing so.
Players to watch: Matheus Cunha scored and assisted in the win in this clash last month, and has been involved in seven goals in his last five Premier League games for Wolves (Goals 4, Assists 3). Brentford’s Neal Maupay looks to make personal history here by scoring in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career.
Key Stat: Wolves have scored in 18 straight home games in the Premier League; the last time they had a longer streak was between October 1999 and September 2000 (23).
