Wolfsburg – Bayern Munich (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Prediction & Tips

Wolfsburg can still finish 10th in the Bundesliga, although it is a difficult task as they need to beat three teams: Borussia Monchengladbach, Bochum and Eintracht Frankfurt. After topping the table in the opening weeks of the season, it has ultimately been a disappointing campaign for Wolfsburg, but they head into this clash preceded by a three-game unbeaten run (G2, E1) in the league, scoring seven goals in that span — all before halftime.

Consecutive clean sheet home wins in the league, while scoring more than four goals each time, should have fans expectant despite the fact that this will be their worst place in the Bundesliga table since 2017/18. They haven’t beaten Bayern Munich here since the 2015/16 season (P7), so they have all the odds stacked against them, but after breaking a run of six straight games without a win over Cologne the previous matchday, Wolfsburg already know what it’s like to end negative streaks.
Bundesliga champions Bayern seem to have taken their foot off the gas since confirming their tenth title in a row — following a 3-1 defeat at Mainz and a 2-2 draw against Stuttgart. However, having thrashed Wolfsburg 4-0 in the previous meeting between these two sides, and having beaten them in their last eight matches against each other, seemingly presents the ideal opportunity to cap a record season with a win on the final day.

He has also scored in all 16 away league games this season (G11, E2, P3), part of a longer sequence that now totals 80 straight Bundesliga games scoring at least once — the last time he failed to score was in a 0-0 draw against RB Leipzig in February 2020. But with both teams scoring in three of their last four away games in the Bundesliga, Bayern have not been as defensively secure as they would like in recent weeks.
Players to watch: Max Kruse scored four goals in Wolfsburg’s last two home games, with all six of his league goals this season coming between the 20th and 55th minutes, while Serge Gnabry scored before halftime in three of Bayern’s last four clashes.

Key stat: Wolfsburg have not conceded a first-half goal in their last five home league games (MT: G4, E1).
