Sweden-Ukraine is perhaps the most unexpected eighth final of all these 2021 European Championships: for both teams, reaching the quarterfinals of this prestigious competition would already be a great feat. Few would probably have bet to witness this challenge at this stage of the competition: first of all because Sweden was positioned first in a difficult group (with Spain and Poland decidedly favored over the Nordic yellow and blue), then because they also see Ukraine the knockout stage was not such a predictable hypothesis on the eve. The return of Kulusevski has certainly given freshness to the Swedish attack which can now count on the physical strength of the Juventus striker. The 3-2 final against Lewandoswki and his teammates therefore guaranteed the primacy in the group, as well as the elimination of Poland from the competition.
In the next match, Sweden will challenge Ukraine, a team capable of unpredictable exploits and equally unexpected slips: after a promising debut against the Netherlands (despite the 3-2 defeat), the victory over North Macedonia (2-1) ) who had instilled high hopes in Shevchenko’s team. The two Ukrainian forwards, Yarmolenko and Jaremcuk, had found the way of the net in the first two games, only to remain dry in the decisive match against Austria, lost 1-0. The last match of the group against Alaba and his teammates, in fact, had made the Ukrainian army tremble, which in any case managed to qualify for the round of 16 among the best third. Against Sweden it will take a performance beyond expectations and it will not be easy for Malinovski and his teammates to find the way to goal against a Sweden who has his extra weapon in the defensive phase. It will not be an open game, especially in the first minutes of play, when both teams will study to try to take the measures and understand which side will be better to attack.
Beyond the 3-2 against Poland in the last round of the group stage of Euro 2021, Sweden has in fact locked their goal in the two previous outings.

And there is that they are, because Sweden has actually shown more in this European than a stammering Ukraine, at least up to now.
