Sporting Lisbon had an impeccable start to the season, winning all competitions with authority. However, the situation changed drastically after the departure of Rúben Amorim to Manchester United. His replacement, João Pereira, failed to maintain the team’s level and was sacked after just eight games. Finally, the club turned to Rui Borges from Vitória Guimarães, who has so far performed well.
In the Primeira Liga, Sporting are leaders and favourites for the title, four points clear of Benfica, their closest challengers.
