Sheffield Utd vs Wolves Prediction & Tips
Concerns about Sheffield United’s ability to be a competitive side in the Premier League (PL) this season were compounded last weekend after a 5-0 defeat to an Arsenal side that did not play its full complement of players. In addition, manager Paul Heckingbottom is at the center of rumors that he would be sacked for the poor results, despite his comments that they have already taken on six clubs that start this matchday in the top nine of the table.
It is worth noting that Sheffield have conceded the first goal during the first 30 minutes in four of the team’s six consecutive defeats in the PL, although the margin of defeat has not been entirely wide. They did not concede more than two goals or go down by a margin of more than one goal in any of their first five league clashes (E1, P4), which was enough to keep fans patient. However, a 20-2 aggregate score in their five most recent PL defeats led defensive midfielder Ollie Norwood to admit that the players “aren’t doing their jobs.”
On the other hand, Wolves have done what Sheffield United had hoped — record a good run in the last five rounds (G2, E3) to improve on a dismal start to the season. That run included taking points off big clubs like Manchester City (G 2-1), Aston Villa (E 1-1) and most recently Newcastle (E 2-2) despite what manager Gary O’Neil called an “outrageous” decision to award Newcastle a penalty.
There is much more from Wolves’ recent performances that suggests they can manage to extend their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League since 2020. Their last four away clashes in the PL came against clubs that started this weekend below them in the standings, such as Sheffield United, and they took home seven of a possible 12 points in that span (G2, E1, P1).
Players to watch: Sheffield United striker Cameron Archer has curiously seen his last ten home goals come between the 30th and 60th minutes. While Matheus Cunha’s two goals for Wolves this PL season came away from home and in the second half.
