Sevilla-AS Roma & Tips

This Wednesday 31 May at 21:00, the Europa League will deliver its verdict! At Budapest’s Puskás Arena, Sevilla and Roma will go head-to-head in a match that promises to be more tightly contested than ever. Indeed, two teams of a similar level will meet this evening, in an attempt to end their season in style before a final league match next Sunday. Sevilla, 6-time winners of the UEFA Champions League, will be full of confidence going into the game. After all, they have managed to beat Manchester United and Juventus since the start of the finals. AS Roma, meanwhile, have nothing to complain about either. Champions of the Europa Conference League last season, the club from La Louve have been able to get the better of Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen in this Europa League.

In La Liga, it was clearly a season to forget for Sevilla! After a nightmarish start to the season in which staying up was the priority, the Andalusian club have managed to bounce back over the last few months, but have to be content with 11th place for the time being. They can still hope to finish in 7th place on the final matchday and clinch a European place, but they will have to rely on all their direct rivals (Rayo, Girona, Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna) to slip up. Relegated from the Champions League, Sevilla have shone especially brightly in the Europa League. To reach the final, José Luis Mendilibar’s team didn’t do things by halves, beating PSV Eindhoven, Fenerbahçe, Manchester United and Juventus. All big names! No doubt the Andalusian club will have big ambitions for this final match. And Sevilla have not prepared for this final in the best possible way. While Ocampos’ team-mates had gone 5 games without defeat, they have just lost to Real Madrid (1-2), with Rodrygo almost single-handedly winning the match.

It’s a second European final in a row for AS Roma! Last season, the club from La Louve won the Europa Conference League. Before this final, they were in 6th place in Serie A and could no longer hope to finish in the top 4. As with Sevilla FC, they will need to win the Europa League to have any hope of playing in the Champions League next season. José Mourinho’s men had to be content with second place in their Europa League group, behind Betis Sevilla. They were then able to eliminate RB Salzburg, Real Sociedad, Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen to earn the right to dream of a C3 title. And the latter are clearly not in great form going into this final. In fact, they have won just one of their last 9 matches! It’s been a complicated end to the season, but Le Mou’s men are determined to win this trophy in order to “save” their rather average campaign in the league.
