For the first time this season, Real Sociedad have fallen into a run of three consecutive defeats in La Liga. At home, the Basques were beaten by Getafe (0-3), and in their last two away games they lost narrowly to Valencia (0-1) and Osasuna (1-2). This poor run of form has not occurred in the championship since December 2021. As a result of these defeats, Imanol Alguacil’s team has dropped to 11th place and is now four points off the European qualification zone.
It is important to highlight the problems in attack, as Real Sociedad have scored only 18 goals, which is one of the lowest figures in La Liga, only surpassed by Valladolid and Getafe. However, the team maintains one of the strongest defences in the league. Until the latest defeat to Getafe, the Basques had not conceded in their last four home games, winning three of them and drawing one.
Espanyol finally broke their losing streak and are now on a four-match unbeaten run. Three of those games were at home, where they drew 1-1 with Leganes, won 2-1 at Valladolid and 1-0 at Real Madrid. Away from home, the team drew 1-1 with Sevilla.
Thanks to this upturn, the club has climbed out of the relegation zone and increased its lead to two points above the drop zone. However, Espanyol’s problems persist, especially in their away games, where they have not won in 11 consecutive matches, with three draws and eight defeats. Moreover, in their last ten away games, the Catalans have not scored more than one goal, reflecting their offensive difficulties.
