Real Madrid suffered a painful 5-2 defeat in the derby against Atlético on the last matchday, ending a seven-game winning streak and relinquishing the lead to Barcelona, who are now just one point behind their main rivals. The Whites’ home results this season are more than impressive: they have won all their matches at the Santiago Bernabéu, keeping a clean sheet on two occasions and conceding goals on two others.
Villarreal are also competing in the Champions League, although unlike Madrid, their results have not been encouraging. On the first matchday, the Yellow Submarine lost 0-1 away to Tottenham, putting in a fairly lacklustre performance, but in their next home game against Juventus they looked much more solid. In the first half, Villarreal clearly dominated and could have scored more goals, but they wasted their chances and then, in the second half, conceded two quick goals. However, the team showed character and managed to salvage a 2-2 draw.
