1. FC Nürnberg has had high expectations for years, but has rarely been able to fulfil them. Last season, the club once again harboured hopes of promotion to the Bundesliga, but the reality was different in the end. Nuremberg finished the season in 10th place, well behind the promotion places. The new season has also been anything but good so far. Paderborn were already among the favourites for promotion last season, but in the end they only managed to finish fourth, narrowly missing out on promotion. This season, the East Westphalians are once again among the favourites. They opened with a win against Holstein Kiel, followed by a draw against Münster and a defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Paderborn currently find themselves in 9th place in the table.
