Morocco vs Ghana Prediction & Tips

After an excellent start to 2021 so far, Morocco has a golden opportunity to record five consecutive unbeaten goals for the first time since 2016. If it manages to achieve that feat, it will extend its current unbeaten streak of 15 matches (W11, E4). Interestingly, three of his last five wins with his unbeaten arc in that period saw him lead at halftime by an exact score of 1-0.

Immediately before that streak, Morocco suffered their most recent defeat against a team ranked below them (against Gabon, October 2019). Since then, scoring in the opening minutes has been key when playing at home, with Morocco taking the lead in less than ten minutes in half of their last six home wins. During those six wins, Morocco averaged 1.0 goals per game within the first 30 minutes.

Despite being ranked 15 places below Morocco in the current FIFA rankings, Ghana has its own ambitions to dominate from the start, as it aims to extend its unbeaten streak against its rival on duty this century (G2, E1 – GF 4, GC 0). He posted a 50% win percentage in his 2020/21 knockout campaign for the African Cup of Nations (W2, E1, P1), and scored before the 20th minute in both wins.

Adding to the importance of starting off on the right foot, Ghana’s performance in their last ten friendlies after scoring first has been outstanding (G6, E3, P1), with three (60%) of the last five wins in that period taking a margin of two or more goals. He led exactly 1-0 in the 30th minute in each of those three wins in which he covered his handicap.
Players to watch: Hakim Ziyech will play for the first time after becoming European champion with Chelsea – Morocco have won by two or more goals in five of their last six international matches in which they have been on target. However, Ghanaian André Ayew could steal the limelight, as the former Premier League winger has scored three of his last four international goals since min. 60 and up.
Highlight: Each of Ghana’s last nine defeats in international friendlies have been matches that ended with an odd goal total.
