Monaco vs Lorient Prediction & Tips

Monaco’s situation could hardly be worse at the moment, having suffered six defeats in their last seven Ligue 1 games (W1), which has seen them drop down the table and fall out of contention for European places. The Principality club has lost its last three league games in a row and, although it managed a 3-1 win over Orleans in the French Cup last weekend, it is on the verge of stringing together four consecutive Ligue 1 defeats for the first time since October 2018. Perhaps they can find some consolation in the fact that their only win during this poor run came at home against PSG, but that is where the reasons for optimism end for a team that has won only two of its last 15 Ligue 1 matches played on a Friday (D5, L8).

The mood in Lorient is much more positive, as they have not lost in over two months (W4, D4). A six-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 (W2, D4) has allowed them to move away from the relegation zone, although most of their good results this season have come at home. Lorient has not won any of its eight away league games this season (D3, L5), a situation largely explained by having scored only two goals on the road, the lowest tally in the league. However, their two away wins in the Coupe de France, in which they scored ten goals (albeit against lower-division opponents), may indicate that their fortunes away from home are beginning to change.
