Metz vs Lyon Prediction & Tips
Following last Sunday’s 1-2 defeat in Strasbourg, their sixth consecutive game without a win in Ligue 1 (D1, L5), bottom-of-the-table Metz have sacked their manager Stéphane Le Mignan. Benoît Tavenot, who left second-tier Bastia at the start of this season after a run of eleven league games without a win, is his successor and has the task of making up the Maroons’ six-point deficit ahead of matchday. Metz are struggling in all areas of the pitch, having conceded more goals per game than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues this season (2.2) and scoring just seven goals at home in Ligue 1. The team has suffered three consecutive defeats in all competitions, including a 4-0 loss to second-tier Montpellier in the latest edition of the Coupe de France.
Lyon travel north in exceptional form, having won seven consecutive games in all competitions. Their last three victories have come in three different competitions, all by a one-goal margin, and their win over Young Boys secures them top spot in the UEFA Europa League table. Les Gones start the round in fourth place, just two points behind the top three, but closing that gap could be difficult away from home, where they have not won any of their five Ligue 1 games (3 draws, 2 defeats) prior to their 3-1 win over Monaco in their last away game, nor any of their last three away games against promoted teams in Ligue 1 (1 draw, 2 defeats).
