Manchester City had a fantastic group stage at the Club World Cup. The Citizens first beat Wydad 2-0 with authority, then crushed Al Ain 6-0, and on the final matchday they played out a high-scoring duel against Juventus, where they came out on top 5-2. Nine points from three games, a goal difference of 13:2 and top spot in the group.
Al Hilal also performed well in the group stage and managed to advance to the playoffs. On matchday one, the Saudis took points from Real Madrid in a 1-1 draw with the Spaniards. This was followed by another goalless draw against Salzburg. With two points from two games, Al Hilal maintained their excellent chances of qualification and they made sure of it with a 2-0 win over Pachuca. Five points and second place in the group.
