Malaga did not aspire to great things, but remained solidly in Primera. For some reason, it was chosen by Middle Eastern investors for its first foray into Spanish football. It all started with the promise of a project that could become the local ‘Manchester City’. However, what started with matches in the Champions League quarter-finals, ended in a dramatic relegation to the second division in record time.
Burgos was founded in the mid-1980s for a common reason: its predecessor and almost namesake had ceased to exist a few years earlier. Incidentally, although that team did not achieve much, it did play in the Primera. The successors, for now, can only boast of having established themselves in the second division – albeit at the second attempt – returning in 2021. Even after finishing eleventh on two occasions, they managed to climb to ninth place last year.
