Liverpool vs Toulouse Prediction & Tips

UEFA Europa League (UEL) Group E leaders Liverpool have enjoyed a great start to this season in European competition, having opened the campaign with a 3-1 win over LASK before beating Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0 on matchday two. That sees Jürgen Klopp’s side sit top of the group in their first UEL campaign since being finalists in 2015/16, and look to advance to the knockout round for a seventh consecutive season on the continental stage.
The Kop will be buzzing following Liverpool’s victory over arch-rivals in the Merseyside derby against Everton over the weekend, eventually winning 2-0 to stay three points off top spot. Anfield looks very unwelcoming to their neighbors, and looks far more intimidating for any French club making a visit, with the Reds winning 11 of their 14 home games (E1, P2) against such opponents.
One of those wins was a 4-0 victory in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round against Toulouse, who despite playing just their first campaign back in Ligue 1 the previous season, find themselves in the UEL thanks to their French Cup title. The Violets also lost the home leg of that series 1-0 in 2007, with those matches being the only ones in their history against English opposition.
Now they are back at Anfield in their first European campaign since the 2009/10 season, and a 1-1 draw against Union Saint-Gilloise and a 1-0 win over LASK mean they are just two points behind Liverpool. Overtaking the home side would be a historic feat for coach Carles Martinez and his team, especially as they have won just two games out of their last ten in all competitions (E6, P2).
Players to watch: Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch provided an assist against LASK and scored the opening goal in the match against Union Saint-Gilloise, with that being the sixth time in the last eight matches in which he has found the back of the net that he has opened the scoring. Toulouse’s Thijs Dallinga also has a goal and an assist in this UEL campaign, and could be a danger again as six of his last eight goals have come in away games.
Key stat: Liverpool have won five of their six home games this season by a two-goal margin.
