The team has never been promoted to the top flight of English football. In fact, they have not played in the second division since the early 1960s. Therefore, staying in League One is already a major achievement for the ‘Imps’. Last season they were very close to the playoffs, finishing in 7th position.

However, they then suffered a 1-2 defeat against Rotherham and a 1-1 draw against Wycombe, the same scoreline as Lincoln City in their last game.
