Last season was not entirely successful for Lens. The Blood and Gold fought for a long time for a place in European competitions, but finally finished in eighth position, one step away from the Conference League. For personal reasons, coach Will Still left the team in the summer and the club appointed Pierre Sage, known for his work at Lyon, in his place.
Lyon finished last season in sixth place, which allowed one of France’s biggest clubs to qualify for the Europa League. However, for much of the season, ‘les Tisseurs’ even fought for a place in the Champions League. Lyon started the previous season under the management of Pierre Sage, but was later replaced by Paulo Fonseca. However, the Portuguese coach will not be able to be on the bench for a while due to a suspension.
