After a two-year absence, Lech Poznań regained the Polish championship title and earned the right to represent Poland in the Champions League. The team started their journey with great authority: in the first qualifying round, the Poles crushed Iceland’s Breidablik 7-1 at home and then managed a narrow 1-0 away win. However, the next opponent was much more demanding: Red Star Belgrade, a club with a wealth of European experience.
Genk finished last season in third place in the Belgian league, which allowed them to qualify directly for the final qualifying round of the Europa League. Their preparation for this challenge started already in the domestic championship, but the start was not the most fortunate.
