Girona vs Mallorca Prediction & Tips

After a remarkable 2022-23 campaign as a promoted side in which they finished tenth and scored on three occasions against Real Madrid (4-2, 1-1) and Barcelona (0-0), Míchel’s Girona are enjoying a sensational start to the season, posting their best record in the first five games of a league campaign since their return to professional soccer in 2008.
Only Madrid and Barça are ahead of Girona at the start of the sixth round of LaLiga EA Sports (LL). With their 4-2 win over Granada at Los Cármenes on Monday, the Girona side made it four wins in the top flight for the first time in their history. “It was the best first half since I’ve been here,” said Míchel, who also noted that “people deserve to be happy and euphoric, but we must continue to work hard.” Girona will provisionally snatch the lead from Madrid if they extend their winning streak this Saturday at Montilivi, where they keep a clean sheet.
Despite returning to LL a season earlier than Girona and earning a point more than their hosts last term, RCD Mallorca have failed to continue their progress. The visitors were held to draws in their opening four games (E2, P2), three of them against teams in the bottom half of the table after Matchday 5, but the Balearic side will hope that their 1-0 win over Celta Vigo at Balaídos will prove to be a turning point.
Vermellon coach Javier Aguirre acknowledged that his team had the luck in Vigo that it had lacked in other matches; Celta shot 16 times against Mallorca, hitting the posts on two occasions. It would be important for Aguirre’s side if the attacking connection between Sergi Darder and Vedat Muriqi, who have not yet been involved in a goal together in the current championship, could start to work.
Key battle: Of Girona’s nine different scorers in LL 2023-24, Yangel Herrera is the only one to have scored in more than one game. Mallorca’s defense will have to be at their best to stop the powerful attack of a team that Pablo Maffeo knows well; the Vermellon fullback played nearly 100 games for Girona.
Key stat: Official meetings between these clubs have averaged just 1.4 goals per game, and the most recent (2-1 to Girona) is the only one of the last 12 meetings to have had more than 2.5 goals.
