Fulham vs Manchester Utd Prediction & Tips
Fulham manager Marco Silva celebrated his contract extension with a 1-1 draw away to Brighton, but will be desperate for his side to find winning consistency as each of their games this Premier League (PL) season has had a different result to the last. That includes one win in the last five games (E2, P2), but they still remain closer to the top seven than the bottom three in terms of points.
Scoring goals has been chief among their problems in the PL, with their total of just nine goals being among the worst records in the league. Replacing Aleksandar Mitrovic has been as difficult as expected, but despite that Fulham have been hard to beat at Craven Cottage for lower ranked teams. Five of their last seven home PL defeats have come against members of the Big Six, including a 2-1 loss to Manchester United last season.
Taking advantage of Fulham’s weaknesses will be necessary for a struggling Erik ten Hag, although he insisted his side are “improving” despite a 3-0 Manchester derby defeat at the hands of their city rivals that meant five defeats in their first ten games in this league season (G5). Chaos always seems to be one defeat away at Old Trafford, and with Wednesday’s cup defeat to Newcastle, Man Utd have now lost by three or more goals at home for the first time since October 1962. It is also the first time since 1930-31 that the Red Devils have lost five of their first ten official home games of a season, adding to the dark cloud hanging over the club.
They have at least managed to win their last two PL away games, but have not won three games in a row since December 2020. A dominant head-to-head record against Fulham in recent years should lead one to believe they can record a third as it has been nearly 14 years since United lost a clash to the Cottagers (G14, E3). That includes six wins in six visits to Craven Cottage, so this West London engagement could be the tonic Ten Hag’s squad needs.
Players to watch: Fulham winger Willian starred in all three of the Cottagers’ meetings with United last season, recording an assist and picking up a red card. Manchester United’s lackluster offense could look to Alejandro Garnacho for inspiration after he scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute on their visit to this stadium last season.
Key stat: Both teams have led at halftime in only one of their ten PL games this season, with their halftime records (G1, E4, P5) tied for worst in the division along with Luton.
