FC Koln vs Augsburg Prediction & Tips
On a four match win streak (W1, E3), Cologne are having their best start in the Bundesliga since 2016/17. Only one team has lost fewer league games than Cologne, and if it had been able to convert a few more of its seven draws – the highest amount in the league – into victories, it would be fighting for Champions League spots.
Difficulty keeping their clean sheet has been a major problem for the “Billy Goats”, but their headstrong nature has allowed them to score seven of the 15 points they have scored at home after conceding the first goal of the game. As a consequence, they are the only undefeated Bundesliga team at home (G4, E3), and Cologne will want to use that as a boost to finally break a six-game winless streak at their stadium against Augsburg.
That six-game unbeaten streak is Augsburg’s longest against any Bundesliga team, but there is no further reason for optimism as they are currently in the relegation playoff spot. Bad starts have been a constant trend that has hurt the team’s poor campaign, something that is even more prominent considering that it is the only Bundesliga team that has failed to score in the first 15 minutes of a match ( GC: 8).
In addition, they have yet to record an away win (E3, P4), which has extended the team’s away win streak in the league to 13 games – their worst away win streak in their history. Neither has he managed to open the scoring far from his stadium, and has only managed to see his rival’s goal three times, so Augsburg desperately needs the formula to start getting victories on rival soil or will begin to face the possible reality of his first relegation of the highest category.
Players to watch: Sebastian Andersson’s three goal contributions for Cologne have been recorded at home (two goals, one assist), while Michael Gregoritsch’s last two goals – the only ones he has scored for Augsburg this year – were recorded after the break, so he has scored his last eight goals at club level during the second half.
Highlight: Augsburg have lost only one of the last 13 meetings between these teams (G6, E6), with eight of those matches ending with less than 2.5 goals.
