Faroe Islands vs Poland Prediction & Tips

Bottom of the Euro 2024 Qualifying Group with just one point after five games, it looks like another chance to qualify for a major tournament has slipped through the Faroe Islands’ fingers. Their only point came in the opening game of the knockout campaign in a 1-1 draw against Moldova, a result that gave the Faroese team hope, but it’s fair to say that hope was quickly extinguished as that was one of only two goals they have scored so far.
Coach Hakan Ericson will at least be proud of his team’s defensive improvements in conceding less than two goals per game in their last seven games (E2, P5), which can be considered impressive by his standards. If they somehow manage to back up this defense with a good offense to cause an upset, then possibly their fans could have something to brag about, and they may find some relief from the fact that the Faroe Islands’ last six wins were all recorded at home.
None of the opponents they beat were of the caliber of Poland, who are the highest ranked in Group E at #30 in the FIFA rankings. However, they do not seem to deserve that position as they have been one of the biggest disappointments of this Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, losing in five of their first five matches (G2).
Their most recent match, a 2-0 loss to Albania, ranked #62 in the FIFA rankings, was the final nail in the coffin for Fernando Santos’ short tenure as coach of the Eagles, with Michal Probierz replacing him. The new coach will want a repeat of Poland’s 2-0 win over their arch-rivals last month, which would revive their hopes of making a fifth consecutive appearance in a major tournament.
Players to watch: Faroe Islands will be hoping their good luck charm, Jóan Símun Edmundsson, makes an appearance, having won six of the last seven games in which he has found the back of the net. As for Poland, new coach Probierz has praised Sebastian Szymanski, who has scored eight goals for Fenerbahce this season, with six being registered after the break.
Key stat: There have been fewer than 1.5 goals before halftime in eight of the Faroe Islands’ last 11 home games.
