Eintracht Frankfurt – Bochum (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bochum Prediction & Tips

After suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss to relegation-threatened Cologne last Saturday, Eintracht Frankfurt will be happy to return to the comfort of playing at home at Deutsche Bank Park, where they have won each of their last three matches. A win this weekend against Bochum could leave them two points behind RB Leipzig, currently fifth in the standings, and it’s a result that certainly seems achievable, as the ‘Eagles are unbeaten in their last seven meetings against this opponent (G5, E2) on their own turf.
Eintracht can also take heart from the fact that they have not lost on the 11 occasions (G8, E3) in which they took the Bundesliga lead this season. One of those three draws came in a 1-1 draw against Bochum in the first round, but the hosts here boast the third-best defensive record in the league, having conceded 24 goals this campaign, a figure only behind the Bundesliga’s top two, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

Despite arriving in Frankfurt in 14th place and just six points above the last relegation-threatened side, Cologne, Bochum, appropriately nicknamed the ‘Irrelegables’, have recorded all four of their wins this season in their last 11 matches (E4, P3). However, after taking just one point from the last six points at stake, they will travel to southern Germany feeling a bit blue, especially after seeing a 1-0 lead slip away in the 91st minute against Augsburg, forcing them to settle for a point.

Since their long-awaited return to the top flight in 2021, Bochum have had the upper hand in this head-to-head clash (G2, E2, P1). However, they have taken seven of those eight points at home, while Thomas Letsch’s side have also failed to taste victory after falling behind on the scoreboard this season (E2, P7) — they are one of six Bundesliga sides yet to get over the mark in that regard, so a fast start could be needed for the away side if they are to take all three points.
Players to watch: Ansgar Knauff has scored in two of Frankfurt’s last four games and has never been on the losing side when scoring at club level in his career since making his professional debut (G10, E2). Kevin Stöger has the most goal appearances for Bochum in 2023/24: ten (Goals 4, Assists 6), but on each of the last three occasions he has scored a goal or assisted, he has also been cautioned.
Key stat: Bochum have 63 bookings for the season.
