Dortmund – Wolfsburg (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Dortmund vs Wolfsburg Prediction & Tips

Despite an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season (G2, E2), Borussia Dortmund and coach Edin Terzic are under pressure in the early stages of the season. Some unconvincing league performances were followed by a 2-0 loss at home to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek UEFA Champions League action, with Dortmund registering just one shot on goal and 35% possession.
That left Terzic lamenting that his team “wasn’t brave enough,” but perhaps some of the blame lies with him after fielding five defenders for their trip to Paris. They will surely need more power in attack if BVB are to get back to winning ways, something they will have the confidence to do in front of their fans as Dortmund are unbeaten in over a year at Signal Iduna Park (G16, E5).
That span includes a 6-0 win over Wolfsburg, who have not beaten Dortmund at this venue in the league since December 2012 (E2, P8). Wolves have conceded exactly six goals in their last two visits to Dortmund, so coach Niko Kovac will be hoping his side can replicate the performance of their 2-1 win over Union Berlin that left the Croatian “happy” to win an “even” game.
That was Wolfsburg’s third win in four Bundesliga games this season, a run that leaves them a point clear of the home side before the start of this matchday. Maintaining that gap looks tricky as they have lost in four of their last six away league games (G2), scoring just once in those four defeats. Finding the back of the net more often could be the key to staying in places that give access to European competitions for next year, as none of the clubs in the top eight in the table have scored fewer than Wolves’ seven goals prior to the start of this matchday.
Players to watch: After scoring a brace against Freiburg last season, Dortmund veteran Mats Hummels faces one of his favorite opponents in this match, tallying 17 wins against this opponent in his career (E5, P5). Looking to spoil his party is Denmark’s Jonas Wind, who has been one of Wolfsburg’s gems this season, scoring five goals and assisting another in their four league games.
Key stat: Dortmund have won each of their four league games.
