Costa Rica vs Germany Prediction & Tips
This Thursday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, one of the qualifiers for the round of 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be defined, when in Group E, one of the candidates to win the title, Germany, faces Costa Rica.
The team coached by Luis Fernando Suárez had a very bad start to the World Cup competition, when in their debut they were thrashed by Spain, with a clear score of 7-0, and it was expected to be impossible for the CONCACAF team to recover.
The truth is that Suárez worked a lot on the psychological and motivational aspects, added to some variants, led to a Costa Rica different from the debut, and so in their second game they beat Japan by the minimum, and have been close to qualify to the round of 16.
It must be said that qualification to the round of 16 also depends on what Japan can do in their game against Spain. Thus, if the Asians lose against Spain, a draw will be enough to qualify, and if they win against Germany, even if Japan draws against La Furia Roja, they will not snatch second place in the group.
For this game, the only absence of Costa Rica is defender Francisco Calvo, who is suspended for accumulation of yellow cards.
For their part, Hansi Flick’s team has not been having a good time, and in their debut they were defeated by Japan 1-2, in a game where the Europeans wasted several scoring chances.
Lastly, Die Mannschaft faced Spain, and everything looked complicated with Morata’s goal in the first fifteen minutes of the second half, but the introduction of Leroy Sane changed Germany’s performance, without leaving aside the equalizer goal scored by Niclas Fullkrug, who was also introduced.
The truth is that the draw allows Germany to remain hopeful of qualifying for the Round of 16, since despite being at the bottom of the group, the gap with second-placed Japan is only two points.
Therefore, the four-time World Cup champions need to win by a difference of two or more goals over Costa Rica, and hope that Japan does not defeat Spain, something that seems complicated. But to do so, they will have to leave behind those “ghosts” that have followed them since the Russia 2018 World Cup, where they also failed to advance from the group stage.
