Last season, Athletic Bilbao played brilliant football, finishing fourth and securing their place in the UEFA Champions League. However, Ernesto Valverde’s team has stumbled a bit this season. They got off to a convincing start, beating Sevilla 3-2, Rayo Vallecano 1-0 and Betis 2-1 in their first three games. But then came a string of defeats: they lost 0-1 to Alavés in the league, to Arsenal in the Champions League and 0-2 to Valencia in their last match. Even so, Athletic have nine points and are seventh in the table.
Girona had a fantastic 2023/24 season, but in the previous league they finished in 16th place, avoiding relegation by just one point. The start of the new season has not been favourable either. In their first three games, they suffered defeats against Rayo Vallecano (1-3), Villarreal (0-5) and Sevilla (0-2). The Catalans then earned their first point with a 1-1 draw against Celta, but on the last matchday they were crushed by Levante 0-4. Currently, Girona has only one point after five matchdays and a goal difference of 2:15.
