Iceland got off to a flying start in their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Azerbaijan. But in their next match, Arnár Gunnlaugsson’s side faced a much tougher opponent in France. The Icelanders put in a solid performance and came close to pulling off an upset, equalising in the 89th minute, but Andri Gudjohnsen’s goal was disallowed after a VAR review.
For Ukraine, the current situation is far from ideal. Serhiy Rebrov’s team is struggling to convince, and rumours of the coach’s possible departure are already circulating in the media. The start of the campaign has been difficult: defeat against France (0-2) and a draw against Iceland, which is itself experiencing difficulties.
