Promoted Pisa has had a very satisfactory start to the season, with a hard-fought qualification in Cesena (0-0, 1 tab 2) in the round of 32 of the Italian Cup and a draw at the Gewiss Stadium against Atalanta Bergamo (1-1) on the first day of Serie A. Back in the top flight of Italian football after a 34-year absence, the Tuscan club did not disappoint in its return to Serie A, picking up its first point in Bergamo against a contender for the podium. The newly promoted side has a difficult start to the season, with Roma coming to town and a trip to reigning Italian champions Napoli in the next three matchdays.
AS Roma did not miss their first match of the new season, beating Bologna 1-0 last weekend thanks to a goal from their new summer signing, Brazilian defender Wesley Franca. The Giallorossi are aiming for nine points from their first three matches (away to Pisa and at home to Torino) before the Rome derby at Lazio on 21 September.
