New York City showed an interesting performance during the last regular season, finishing in the playoffs. In the fight for the MLS Cup, the team reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to their neighbours, the Red Bulls.
This season, the Citizens are remarkably consistent at home: at Yankee Stadium, the team traditionally plays aggressive, attacking football. Their strategy is based on ball control and fast forward movement down the flanks, although away from home the results have not been consistent.
Of the 28 points they have won, 21 have come at home, so they are logically considered favourites in almost every home game. Playing in New York is difficult for any opponent, although the team also has a number of problems.
The current ninth place in the standings does not impress and, in general, City’s play leaves mixed feelings. In terms of goals conceded, New York are among the best in the conference, but their goalscoring ability in the opposition’s half leaves a lot to be desired.
