Castellon, during the last century, managed several times to be promoted to Primera, although they usually did not manage to stay there for long. But since 1991 they have failed to return to the elite, and worse, in the last decade and a half they have spent half of that time, seven seasons, in the fourth division, and only one campaign in Segunda, in 2020/2021. Only last spring, after a three-year break, did they manage to return by winning their group in the third league.
Zaragoza are much more successful than their rivals. They even boast international success, having won the European Cup Winners’ Cup. And in terms of the number of Copa del Rey titles, it remains one of the tournament’s all-time greats. But there has long been no new cause for pride: on the contrary, the team has been stuck in Segunda since 2013. Last season was another mediocre result, finishing a lowly fifteenth.
